I left Vancouver for San Francisco, freshly minted green card in pocket, on January 1, 1981. Gary followd in September, 1981. That is the occasion of this photo. With the help of our friend Loreen, we had just crammed every possession, including dustbunnies, into this U-Haul which Gary and I drove to San Francisco, accompanied by Ian Mackenzie who is the lithesome fellow on the right (I'm in the middle, Gary on the left). Ian and Gaetano ended up being roommates for the last years of Gaetano's life. I live in the apartment underneath where they lived, and where Ian still lives. This is the core of my decades-old gay family.
