El Diablo

This is Gaetano on Mount Diablo (east of San Francisco), in the latter years of our relationship. We had grown increasingly different in a way that smacked of friendship rather than domesticity. Gaetano wanted to be in nature as often as he could possibly be; I was and remain thoroughly urban. He did manage to drag me off to Mount Diablo on this occasion, and I took the most beautiful picture of him I ever managed. He hated it, though, because he had a little bandage below his ear which, in the full version, is far too obvious. Strangely, I never notice it. Oh yeah, I got a monster case of poison oak out of this rollick in the blistering sun.
